We’re Will and Anthea. We’re gardeners, designers and educators based in the Hunter Valley..

Permaculture has been a journey. Will trained in permaculture through TAFE NSW’s National Environment Centre with Beck Lowe, and we both completed our Permaculture Design Certificates with Brett Cooper at Limestone Permaculture. Anthea also completed Permaculture Teacher Training with Hannah Moloney and Brenna Quinlan, and has studied with David Holmgren and Beck Lowe. Robin Clayfield’s work in Creative Leadership and Dynamic Facilitation has influenced the way we teach and work with groups.

We’ve also been lucky enough to learn from people outside permaculture. Dan Pearson’s approach to naturalistic garden design has influenced the way we think about planting and place, while Rowan Reid’s Master Tree Growers course changed the way we look at trees and their role in productive landscapes.

Between us, our background includes teaching, horticulture, garden design, naturalistic planting, tree growing and a fair amount of hands-on experimentation.

These days, much of our time is spent teaching. We run workshops, talks and courses for schools, councils, community groups, festivals and gardening organisations, and as PDC lead teachers with Limestone Permaculture. We also started Permaculture at the Pub, a simple idea that has grown into a network of people getting together to share what they know.

We’re interested in gardens that do more than look good. We like gardens where the water, soil, plants, trees, animals, buildings and people all have a role to play, gardens that are productive and resilient, but still feel like somewhere you’d actually want to spend time.
